Training Simulator Development for Palm Oil Based Biodiesel Production

چکیده
This research aims at developing anoperator training simulator (OTS) using AspenOTS Frameworkfor fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) production plant. All over the world, there is an increasing interest towards the use of vegetable oils in much desired ecofriendly biodiesel production. In view of environmental concerns due to high polluting nature of fossil fuels and also because of the limited availability of non-renewable energy sources e.g. fossil fuels, biodiesel is seen as a future fuel alternative. In order to improve the process efficiency and hence the profitability with the satisfaction of environmental concerns, in-depth analysis of process is inevitable. Simulation provides a platform to study and analyse the process in detail. In addition, safety and productivity in the plant is mainly dependant on the ability of the operators to deal with emergency situations in the running plant. Therefore, the training of operators is a tremendously important activity in the chemical industry to avoid accidental hazards in the plant. In present contribution, a steady state and dynamic simulator has been developed using Aspen Plus7.3 and Aspen Plus Dynamics 7.3. Subsequently, a high fidelity operator training simulator that can be used to explore normal and emergency conditions, is developed using Aspen OTS Framework.

Despite this, biodiesel has ye...
متن کاملAlkaline Earth Metal Oxide Catalysts for Biodiesel Production from Palm Oil: Elucidation of Process Behaviors and Modeling Using Response Surface Methodology
Four different alkaline earth metal oxides i.e. MgO, CaO, SrO and BaO were used as heterogeneous catalysts for biodiesel production from palm oil. Effects of critical process variables i.e. reaction time, methanol to oil ratio and temperature were investigated. The results were then fitted to a historical design to study the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), to characterize interactions between...

Biodiesel is a low-emissions diesel substitute fuel which is made from renewable sources that consists of the simple alkyl esters of fatty acids. Research and development in the field of biodiesel showed that one way of reducing the biodiesel production costs to compete economically with petroleum diesel fuels is by use the less expensive feedstock containing fatty acids such as inedible oils. ...
متن کاملAn Overview of Palm, Jatropha & Algae as a Potential Biodiesel Feedstock in Malaysia
The high demand to replace the petroleum fuel makes renewable and sustainable sources such as Palm oil, Jatropha oil and Algae as main focus feedstock for biodiesel production in Malaysia. There are many studies conducted on Palm oil and Jatropha oil, however, the use of Algae as an alternative fuel is still in its infancy. Malaysia already implemented B5 based Palm oil as a feedstock and this ...
متن کاملSynthesis and Characterization of CaO-TiO2 for Transesterification of Vegetable Palm Oil
This study explores the potential of titanium oxide impregnated on calcium oxide (CaO-TiO2) as catalyst in transesterification of vegetable palm oil (VPO) to produce biodiesel. The biodiesel yield increased with catalyst calcination temperature and reaction time, and the usage of CaO-TiO2 led to higher biodiesel production when compared to reaction catalyzed by CaO. Biodiesel yield of 93.33% wa...
